About Southern Cloud

Southern Cloud is a 40-metre, three-masted sailing yacht built in 1989 by Faenoe Yachtvaerft in Denmark, with a comprehensive refit completed in 2024. Her composite hull and superstructure carry a classic schooner profile that stands out against the motor yachts more commonly seen in her home cruising grounds of Australia and the South Pacific. Despite her traditional lines, Southern Cloud is set up for genuinely active charters in Australia, with an emphasis on diving, surfing and watersports alongside relaxed, wind-powered passages between anchorages.

Guest Accommodation

Southern Cloud accommodates up to 12 guests across 6 air-conditioned cabins, including a master suite, two VIP cabins and two further double or twin cabins, plus a bunk cabin well suited to children or additional guests. A crew of 7 looks after charter guests throughout, including a dedicated chef who caters for both casual lunches and sunset dinners on deck.

Onboard Amenities

Southern Cloud’s interior favors warm timber finishes and large windows over the minimalist look of newer charter yachts. The saloon and dining areas feel traditional rather than sleek, closer to a classic schooner than a modern superyacht. Cruising Performance

Southern Cloud cruises comfortably at 10 knots, with a maximum speed of 12 knots and a range of around 2,000 nautical miles. Her three-masted schooner rig lets her cut engine noise on longer passages between anchorages, a point of difference from the motor yachts that dominate charter fleets in the same waters. Expansive deck space, split across multiple lounging and dining areas, gives guests room to spread out whether underway or at anchor. Diving and watersports are a particular strength aboard Southern Cloud, with six full dive sets and an onboard compressor supporting guests who want to explore reefs during the charter. Fishing and spearfishing equipment is also available for guests who want to bring something back for the chef to prepare aboard this sailing yacht.
